CalcLine 2.1.1
Mathematical expressions for the rest of us
|
 |
Native on PPC Mac and Intel Mac |
|
 |
Calcline is a mathematical tool for Mac only, optimized for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
It is easy to use and is the ideal substitute of the ancient desktop calculator.
You simply digit an expression and it displays the result |

Calcline starts as a small window utility.
It's very simpleto use. Just insert a mathematical expression to evaluate
and Calcline will do the work.
Expression can be very easy such as:
42+110+25+44+32+25
This is really
a simple task and in that way you are using Calcline
as a substitute of the standard calculator.
Expressions can also be much more
complex, with a lot of nested parentheses and functions.
For example you can type an equation such as:
23*(cos(1.875)-0.0025*0.001)+tan(0.258+0.025*2)
and Calcline will solve it and, if you lik,e showing it step by step.
Using trigonometric formula you can use the Deg or the Rad modality
as in any advanced calculator. You can insert functions using
the ƒ popup immediately above the input field without having to
remember it. |
|
| |
|
Calcline can be used in this compact view or using
an extended view.
The extended view shows, above the input field,
a board in which Calcline displays the expression solved step by step.
This allows to verify how Calcline solves expressions as if you do them
by hand.
Using Calcline it is possible to specify and create
on the fly an unlimited number of variable values. A Drawer which can
slide out from the Calcline window shows a table with
all the created variables. The variables can be used in calculation.
In that way you can type
23*(cos (ax)-rs*tx)+tan(Xpt+Gtr*2)
and if all the variables where defined Calcline will calculate the expression.
Best of all in the board you will see the substitutions of the variable
one by one and then how the expression is solved.
Creating variables in the table is easier than
saying it. Not only you can use the add button to add a new variable,
and clicking it you can edit in place inside the table but even you can
create new variable form the edit field in an simple way.
If you digit
ax=
1.875
in the edit field, automatically Calcline will add the variable ax to the table
and will assign the value of 1.875. After that you can use the variable in successive
calculation. |

If a variable is already inside the table and you
redefine it, the new value will be updated in the table.
You can even assign to a variable the result of
complex expression including other variable names such as:
bx=tg(0.0023+arcsin(0.21225)+0.22*2.5+ax+pi/12)
Calcline predefines for you some constant value
such as
pi = 3.141592653589793
and others

The best part of Calcline is that it is based on
our own custom mathematical engine, developed natively on Mac OS X, and
we will continue to improve it and add functionality to it to use it
extensively in different project. We realized this engine because we
didn't like what was available as open source, because this was not
realized in our opinion for real work, but just as a 'proof of concept'.
Our Mathematical engine uses at the basis a total different philosophy.
It is realized to do the work in our Mac OS X software, present and
future.
Calcline has also a high degree of power in calculation, it uses long double for all tyhe math analysis using only math function enabled for long double manipulation. Using Calcline you can calc using decimal precision up to 16.
Calcline can also format the output as you like, according with your international preferences of forcing the data format you prefer.
